To everyone out there...including all my home friends and close buddies:
Things have certainly changed for all of us since we last really discussed our lives on this forum, and I'd like to have a serious (semi-serious, I know most of you guys just can't stop the humor sometimes) about a controversial topic, religion.
It's been all over the news waves, bookstores, and internet chat rooms, with books like the God Delusion, Letter to a Christian Nation, and movies like Religulous and Ben Stein's Expelled. And I'm not just talking about non-believers versus Christians, but I'm talking about the Muslim world, terrorists, and the rest of civilization.
So, I'll state my two cents. I'm a non-believer; technically label myself as an agnostic atheist, and sincerely consider much of Western Religion to be detrimental to the human condition, but paradoxically, completely important to the historical development of the Western world and our current modern society. I have no qualms with generally religious people, but do have a strong distaste for their beliefs which I feel I should have the right to discuss at any given place at any given time, no matter who is offended. It is my thought that the ideas can be discussed, ridiculed, and even condemned, but the person who holds those ideas should always be respected and never put down personally.
If anyone who has known me or written to me on this forum for the last two years who would have a hard time guessing these facts, however it my also come as a surprise to you. My "Chappelleanism" was a parody of traditional religions.
So, who else wants to discuss their views?

I'm a Christian, I was baptised in 2008 about a week before my 18th birthday, I love Jesus Christ with all my heart and soul, he is my Lord, my God, my Savior, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, and my redeemer.. I realize that alot of people have issues with Christianity, personally, I believe in evolution, I believe in science and that science is the explanation for the world of what we consider to be reality, and the Bible is our "Manual" for the dimension, or realm, or world that lies beyond what we can see with our eyes.. Looking at various historical proofs, Roman historians, and even the Jewish Talmud, which where all biased against Jesus, they affirm that he was crucified, and was worshipped as God, now if you believe it, that's a matter of faith, but can it be proven, yes, but really, if someone is going to find Christ, they will do it in their own, unique way..

I was raised Catholic and was pretty straight edge until college. Didn't take long to lose the faith after arriving in Madison. I attended the college catholic church the first few months every Sunday, but then once I met my girlfriend and was tempted to have sex before marriage, that was it. Had a conversation with what I believed was JC, and basically told Him, "Please forgive me Lord, but I disagree with your stance on waiting to have sex before marriage. I'm gonna go down the hall now and have sex."
Then I walked down the dorm hall and sinned my ass off. It felt good and I had no regrets. Then I began questioning more and more of what I accepted as a youngster and basically lost respect for any God that would have a bunch of rules to live by. I also wasn't too keen on the idea of a God who wanted or allowed Himself to be worshipped. It's like, "yeah, you created the world and gave me life, and that's cool, thanks for doing that, but um, it's not cool if you did it so that we could all worship you and live the way you want us to live and if we choose not to you'll throw us into a fire in Hell. What kind of a scheme is that?"
Doing a favor and expecting one in return is one way to live, but not my way.
Now I'm an agnostic who doesn't believe, but admits there's a chance.

I'm no Biblical scholar, but I don't recall Jesus saying anything about premarital sex. I'm an ex-Catholic atheist too, btw:

My beliefs are basically your personal relationship with God is all that matters... I have seen toooooo many things in this world to not believe. The catholic church was oppressive to keep control of the masses and it turned ALOT of people against it. Push push push is no way to keep people on your side. It is the sick that need doctors not healthy people. By condemning someone from the beginning will only make them close themselves off to anything you have to say. Too many people worry about man made doctrines and not enough about their eternal soul.
BTW at a Catholic college you didn't have a chance of keeping your virginity... wasn't it Ice Cube that said "Theyre the biggest hoochies"? 9 out of 10 voices in my head voted to stay home and clean my guns today "If you give a man fire he will be warm for a day. if you set him on fire he will be warm for the rest of his life." |

A quick google search brings up Bible passages along the lines of "when you insert the penis into the vagina you become one flesh for eternity", but there's enough material in the Bible to come to any conclusion you like.
Were you a priest or was that for Halloween? The collar looks a little cheap.

Should have been more clear, the church was on campus, but I didn't attend a catholic school, far from it.
For me, rebelling against the man made doctrines got the ball rolling, and then the deeper reflection about spirituality took place.

Jesus and most of the other Messiah crowd all have some fine things to say, and although I am not too convinced of most biblical claims, his teachings on goodwill were spot on. You cannot knock someone who advises to love your fellow human being, unless you truly hate yourself and everyone around you. Did he rise from the dead? Not all too important to me, so long as folks who believe that make efforts to make this world a better place.
I am too much of a wildcard on any given day to settle down with any faith, for better and worse.
